The two companies announced on Wednesday they to a joint venture for the service to be called BritBox, and are now working on a formal legal agreement to usher the deal to life.

While the JV at present includes just the BBC and ITV, they said anticipate that other partners will be added to service and both will speak to regulators and the wider industry about their proposals.

According to the JV partners, BritBox will be an “original streaming service” providing access to a collection of British boxsets and original series on demand.

The service will provide the most comprehensive collection of British-originated content, as well as original content created specifically for the platform.

The service has already launched in the U.S. and has attracted more than half a million subscribers to date, the companies said.

While the details are still up in the air, the plan is to launch the service in the UK in the second half of 2019. While neither the BBC or ITV were able to confirm pricing for the service, they promise it will be competitive.
