AFL Architects To Continue Work on Qatar’s Lusail Stadium

QATAR (CelebrityAccess) AFL Architects have been picked to be the designer for Lusail Stadium, the centerpiece stadium for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.

This is not the first time AFL has been awarded a contract for the facility. It was selected in 2016 by HBK/CRCC JV to develop the initial design and, in 2017, it provided the revised schematic design for the stadium, according to Pan Stadia. Lusail Stadium will be the largest venue of the tournament and will host the opening and final matches.

Construction is expected to be completed next year.

“The developed design and delivery of Lusail Stadium marks an important milestone for AFL Architects,” John Roberts, sports director for AFL Architects, said. “Following the opening of our Qatar office in 2013, our involvement on this project represents the pinnacle of our international journey so far. Following appointment, our team has impressed with their relentless dedication and enthusiasm for this world-class project, and we are very happy with the progress on site.”

The stadium is considered the highest profile stadium in the world today, according to Pan Stadia
