Honey Lantree, Drummer of British Invasion Group The Honeycombs, Passes

(CelebrityAccess) – Drummer and singer, Honey Lantree, of British Invasion group The Honeycombs, has passed away at the age of 75.

As one of very few female drummers in the early days of rock ‘n’ roll, Honey, who was born Ann Margot Lantree in Hayes, Middlesex, England, in 1943, performed on the band’s famed single “Have I the Right?.” Produced by Joe Meek, who was often referred to as the “British Phil Spector,” the song peaked at #1 in the UK (on the Pye label) and #5 in the United States (on the independent Interphon label) in late 1964.

Lantree also co-sang the lead on the group’s second-biggest U.K. hit, “That’s the Way.”

While The Honeycombs later placed two additional singles on the U.K. charts, and one other, “I Can’t Stop,” in the U.S., “Have I the Right?,” was the group’s biggest success and only top 10 single both at home and across the pond.

The Honeycombs split in 1966.

Lantree passed away on December 23rd. No cause of death has been revealed.
