Rapper Awkwafina Strikes A Sit-Com Deal With Comedy Central

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Rapper and actress Awkwafina has landed a role as the star of a new television series on Comedy Central.

The half-hour scripted narrative will feature Awkwafina as a twenty-something living in Queens, striving for a larger than life existence while living with her father and grandmother.

Awkwafina, along with Karey Dornetto (SMILF, Portlandia) and Teresa Hsiao (Family Guy, American Dad) wrote the pilot, which was directed by Lucia Aniello (Broad City, Rough Night)

The cast also includes Bowen Yang as Awkwafina’s more successful cousin, BD Wong as her father, and Lori Tan Chinn as her grandmother.

Comedy Central has ordered a ten-episode first season of the show, which will debut on the Viacom-owned comedy channel in 2019.

Awkwafina, whose real name is Nora Lum, is no stranger to working in front of the camera and she’s had roles in big screen projects such as Ocean’s 8, Crazy Rich Asians and the indie film Dude. On the small screen, she’s appeared in MTV’s Girl Code and was the host of a self-created short-form web series Tawk.

Her musical career includes her solo album, 2014’s Yellow Ranger and her 2018 EP In Fina We Trust.

She’s repped by UTA, Artists First and lawyer Isaac Dunham.

Roc Nation Sues Insurance Carrier Regarding Jordan Feldstein’s Death

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Roc Nation has reportedly filed a lawsuit against its insurance carrier and is seeking $11 million regarding the death of Maroon 5 manager Jordan Feldstein. Roc Nation, a joint venture of Jay-Z and Live Nation Entertainment partnered with Feldstein’s Career Artist Management in 2016 and took out a “key man” life insurance policy with HCC International Insurance to protect its investment with the music manager, according to  Variety . Roc Nation claims that, after Feldstein died Dec. 22, 2017 because of a blood clot in his let, HCC was slow in evaluating the claim and finally determined the payout would $1.2 million; the policy carried a liability limit of $12.5 million, according to Roc Nation’s lawsuit.
