Troy Carter To Exit Spotify

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — After months of speculation, Spotify confirmed on Monday that global head of creator services Troy Carter would be leaving the company.

According to Music Business Worldwide, Carter will exit the company by September but will continue in an advisory role at the streaming service.

“I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved but with so much accomplished, it was the right time to move out of the day-to-day into an advisory role,” said Carter in a press statement.

“By all measures, Troy has made a tremendous impact at Spotify,” Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said in a statement. “When he joined our team, there was skepticism from the artist community on streaming overall. Troy has been instrumental in changing that perception.”

Carter’s exit from Spotify had been the subject of speculation for months. In May, Carter reportedly threatened to exit Spotify in protest over a change in the streaming services content policies that saw the company pull music from some controversial artists from its automated playlists.

In June, that speculation only intensified when Dawn Ostroff was named Chief Content Officer at the streaming service, replacing Stefan Blom.

Carter, a veteran music manager who signed an unknown Lady Gaga, has managed the careers of numerous artists, including Meghan Trainor, John Legend, and Nelly. He joined Spotify in 2016 in a bid to help the streaming service mend fences with artists who attacked the streaming service for making billions in revenue while paying minuscule royalties to rights-holders.
