Radical Indie To Cease Operation And Sell Assets

(CelebrityAccess) — Radical Indie, a digital radio service that allowed users to set up their own personal broadcasts, and sought to rival services such as Pandora and Soundcloud,  has announced they are shutting down.

“Radical will be closing to the public soon to focus attention on finding a suitable partner for our unique technology,” the company said in an announcement posted to their social media.

The company cited competition in the streaming sector from the major players, including Apple and Spotify as key drivers in their failure to gain traction.

“We’ve taken all the things old-school radio is great at — like live personalities and concurrent listening — digitally supercharged them for the streaming era, and the response to TALK has been exclusively positive. Our platform’s IP incorporates many firsts and trade secrets, but despite our quality, and the support of our users and shareholders, Radical simply lacks the muscle to reach the full potential of this tech on our own,” Founder and CEO Tom McAlevey said in a statement.

The company said the shutdown would happen over the weekend, but they said they would save user’s accounts and music with the hope of a potential relaunch, which seems optimisticwith the sought-after asset sales.

The company first launched in 2013 as Radical.FM with a free with a catalog of over 25 million tracks that users could stream to their audiences. The company re-launched in 2016 as Radical Indie, an ad-free streaming service that allowed listeners to make donations for streams they enjoyed.
