Amplify Delves Into Billions Corp. Defections

(CelebrityAccess) Dave Brooks over at Amplify has noted that seven agents have left the Billions Corp. agency this year while founder David “Boche” Viecelli “stays silent.”

Brooks noted that the “manifesto” on the site says, “The Billions Corporation honestly believes that no other agency is as truly artist-centric as ours,” but noted that it has lost five agents to major agencies in seven weeks along with “the bulk of the artists on its roster.”

Andrew Colvin and Adam Voith joined WME’s Nashvilel office in March, Amplify noted, taking with them Bon Iver, Dawes, Brett Dennen, Robert Ellis, Jason Isbell, Lucero, Kevin Morby, Mumford & Sons, Erin Rae, The Staves, Justin Townes Earle, and Vampire Weekend, among others. Ali Hedrick and Trey many left June 1, Amplify also noted, taking with them to Paradigm Sufjan Stevens, Neko Case and Fleet Foxes, among others. The magazine also noted that agent Josh Lindgren, who handles podcasts, has exited.

“That leaves Billions with four agents, including Viechelli, and a handful of headliner talent like Arcade Fire, Death Cab for Cutie (in Australia and Asia) and Old Crow Medicine show — a far cry from past rosters that dominated the summer festival headline slate and served as the tastemakers of the industry,” Brooks wrote.

Amplify said it attempted to reach Boche “at least half a dozen” times to ask what may be going on, noting that in the past many who worked with the company “have been extremely cautious about saying anything negative” about the founder.

The article, available here, does note in detail that there it’s tough times for independent agencies.
