Afroman To Pay $65K To Fan He Punched

BILOXI, Miss. (CelebrityAccess) Afroman is settling a lawsuit filed by a woman he punched onstage in 2015, agreeing to pay her $65,000.

A judgment in Harrison County Circuit Court says Afroman must pay Haley Byrd in monthly installments of $10,000 and, if not, owe her $125,000, according to the Sun Herald.

Afroman was performing at a free Mardi Gras concert in Biloxi, Miss., when Byrd got on stage and danced. Afroman, real name Joseph Edgar Foreman, turned around and punched her. Byrd reportedly suffered a concussion. She sued Afroman and the owner of the venue.

Byrd also said Afroman, known for the song “Because I Got High,” defamed her in a song about the assault,“Stay Off The Stage,” according to the Associated Press.

Afroman previously pleaded guilty to an assault charge and agreed to anger management classes and drug testing as part of his probation, according to NME. The settlement ends a potential civil case that was expected to start May 22.

The star previously apologized for his action, saying he was frustrated by fans at the show and that a man kept heckling him, according to NME. He said he did not know if the person he punched was a man or a woman.

“It was an early show. It was Mardi Gras,” he told TMZ in 2015. “I had to walk about half a mile to get to the place. I had my frustrations to make a long story short.”

Roc Nation Sues Insurance Carrier Regarding Jordan Feldstein’s Death

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Roc Nation has reportedly filed a lawsuit against its insurance carrier and is seeking $11 million regarding the death of Maroon 5 manager Jordan Feldstein. Roc Nation, a joint venture of Jay-Z and Live Nation Entertainment partnered with Feldstein’s Career Artist Management in 2016 and took out a “key man” life insurance policy with HCC International Insurance to protect its investment with the music manager, according to  Variety . Roc Nation claims that, after Feldstein died Dec. 22, 2017 because of a blood clot in his let, HCC was slow in evaluating the claim and finally determined the payout would $1.2 million; the policy carried a liability limit of $12.5 million, according to Roc Nation’s lawsuit.
