Michelle Birawer of Harsh Tokes Booking created a Facebook event , half jokingly, saying “Come celebrate the two year anniversary of the greatest music festival farce of ALL TIME! Details TBA.” The live-action role-playing event would include FEMA tents and awful cheese sandwiches, and guests would receive “Instagram Influencer” cards. Plus, luggage would be tossed into a parking lot. The event soon drew 6,000 interested attendees. However, “The (Department of Natural Resources) just straight up told me that if I applied for a permit they would deny it,” Birawer told  Metro Times . DNR runs the Belle Isle state park. “These are not the type of events we would consider,” DNR’s chief of southern field operations Scott A. Pratt told  Metro Times  via...

Monetize Music Fandom, Not Consumption: What Japan, Global Industry Can Learn From China

( Hypebot ) — Music fans in Japan have shifted from buying CDs to streaming at a rate far slower than most of the rest of the world. MIDiA analyst Mark Mulligan, says that may be because traditional streaming services do not meet the needs of the Japanese, and many other music fans globally. A solution can be found in the streaming services of China. ________________________________ By  Mark Mulligan  of  MIDiA  and the  Music Industry blog Japan is the world’s second-largest recorded music market and accounts for 14% of the global total. However, Japan is not following the wider market path of surging streaming revenues driving overall market growth. Instead, Japanese recorded music revenues fell by 3.3% in 2018 — in US dollars terms, in Yen terms it fell by 1.8%. Japan’s fate matters because its revenues are so big, a slowdown impacts the global market in a big way. On the plus side, streaming is growing solidly in Japan, up 30% in 2018, which puts it o...

While the company had made no official announcement about a launch date, speculation was rife that the company was preparing to launch its streaming music service in the Central Asian nation on January 31st. Earlier this month, Variety was the first to float the January 31st date when they reported that sources at Spotify claimed the company was planning a launch party for the final day of the month. The report appeared to be further borne out by changes in Spotify’s Terms of Service, which was updated to be “Effective as of January 31, 2019.” It is no secret that Spotify has been gearing up for a launch in India and after the company established a local office in Mumbai in early 2018, they have been on a hiring spree, adding as many as 300 staffers in the region. Ariana Grande’s Hand Tattoo Goes From Bad To Worse

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Ariana Grande made news yesterday when her new tattoo didn’t say what she thought she said; she has since returned to the tattoo shop for a repair and it apparently made things worse. Grande is celebrating her newest single, “7 Rings,” with a kanji tattoo on her left palm. However, it was pointed out that the Japanese language on the design did not say “7 Rings” but, rather “finger” or even “small charcoal grill.” She apparently returned to the tattoo artist who got it say “ring” instead. “However, the kanji 指 and 輪 are split into different lines, so it looks weird,” Kotaku said. “In English, this would be like writing “rings” as “ri” and then “ngs” in another paragraph. Japanese kids are taught not to split kanji characters in school because it’s confusing. Now, you could split kanji for a stylized design, but that’s with correct Japanese, which her tattoo is not. Since the way that “seven” is written remains wrong, this is another bad kanji tattoo.” ...

Backstreet Boys

(CelebrityAccess) – Backstreet Boys are winding back the clock with their biggest tour in decades and a new album, DNA, which dropped Friday, January 25th at midnight. As evidenced with the album’s lead single, the pounding “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” DNA stays true to BSB’s harmony-driven pop sound while evolving their production to fit today’s radio landscape (and it worked so well, it earned the group their first Grammy nomination in 17 years and first Pop Songs hit in 11 years). That evolution carries throughout the rest of DNA’s 12 tracks, while also presenting Backstreet Boys’ most diverse set yet, with hints of R&B, country and funk. DNA feels like the Backstreet Boys’ most mindful attempt to appeal to an audience that’s broader than the ’80s and ’90s babies who have carried their boy band obsessions into the 2010s. Though DNA may not be so transportive that it’ll make people forget it’s 2019 and not 1999, BSB were clearly looking to broaden their horizons — from recrui...

And if they don’t, it’s not going to be because of us. But they’re never going to be in KISS again. “Would we welcome Ace or Peter to jump up onstage for a song or two? Of course,” he added. “Could we depend on either Ace or Peter to do a full set night after night? Not on ...
