Ed Sheeran Sued For $100M Regarding ‘Let’s Get It On’ / ‘Thinking Out Loud’ Similarities

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) Structured Asset Ales, a part owner of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On,” is suing Ed Sheeran for $100 million because of getting blocked from a similar lawsuit broght on by other copyright owners. Both lawsuits say Sheeran copied parts of Gaye’s song for his hit “Thinking Out Loud” – which is likely possible considering Sheeran has been known to switch from one song to the other in concert. A lawyer for Structured Asset Sales said the new lawsuit was necessary because a judge refused to let the company join a 2016 lawsuit by the family of a cowriter of Gaye’s song, according to the Associated Press. A lawyer for Sheeran and other defendants have sent a letter to a judge saying both lawsuits are baseless. Ticketmaster Accused Of Being Its Own Enemy, Helping To Scalp ‘Hamilton’ Tickets

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) In an ongoing legal battle between Ticketmaster and secondary ticketing outlets, the latter has fired a salvo, saying in a counter-complaint that TM is the actual bad guy and secretly providing the tools necessary for scalpers to get tickets, at least in the case of the much-desired “Hamilton” Broadway show ducats. Ticketmaster has been battling firms Prestige Entertainment and Renaissance Ventures in the court system, accusing them of employing bots to harvest tickets to “Hamilton.” The Live Nation subsidiary filed a lawsuit in October alleging the two companies are breaching an agreement with the New York’s attorney general by using the technology. Prestige, however, has punched back, saying that TM is its own culprit, creating and disseminating its own bots then pointing the finger elsewhere, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. TM “alleges that many tickets to this show were purchased by bots, which it alleges deprived the public of fair ac...

Düsseldorf Nixes Ed Sheeran Concert Plans

DÜSSELDORF, Germany (CelebrityAccess) — The German city of Düsseldorf has thrown up another obstacle in British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s quest to find a place to perform. The Düsseldorf city council on Wednesday voted not to approve a city park for the use of a concert by Sheeran as the event would have required more than 100 trees to be removed, German news site Deutsche Welle reported. The refused permit is the latest in a string of setbacks for the concert’s promoter FKP Scorpio, who expressed “amazement and boundless disappointment,” in a statement reported on by local newspaper Rheinische Post. The concert had originally been slated for Essen-Mulheim airport in May, but organizers were forced to relocate the event due to a population of endangered birds nesting at the facility. As well, aerial photos indicated that as many as 103 unexploded bombs from World War II may be buried on the site. In the face of those challenges, organizers opted to move the concert to the par...

ATLANTIC CITY (CelebrityAccess) – Hard Rock  (the former Trump Taj Mahal) and the Ocean Resort Casino (the former Revel) are both having grand opening ceremonies in Atlantic City this morning (June 28). Following a two-year stretch in which five of the city’s 12 casinos closed, the reopenings have generated a sort of cautious optimism that perhaps things are once again looking up for the famed seaside gambling town. The Government of Ontario To Overhaul Ticketing Laws Effective July 1st

TORONTO, ON (CelebrityAccess) – It looks like the government of Ontario is set to overhaul its ticketing laws effective Sunday, July 1st. The Ticket Sales Act has been designed to give consumers better access to concert tickets within the province while also protecting them against inflated ticket prices and scams. Here’s a quick breakdown of what the updated laws encompass: 1) Computer bots will be officially banned. 2) It will now be illegal to resell concert tickets for more than 50% over the face value. 3) All sellers will now be required to disclose the original face value of the ticket + any additional charges such as taxes or service fees. Meanwhile, most industry experts feel the crackdown on ticket resales is unlikely to solve the problem but rather to push it underground, and they’re probably right. If this economy has shown us anything it’s that the idea of supply and demand is totally busted, and people will pay market value no matter what the ticket is worth. Yo...

The Bob Lefsetz Podcast: Steve Boom

He runs Amazon Music. The service which might get little ink, but is a powerhouse. Voice control is everything, and Amazon Music is closely tied-in to Alexa. Furthermore, when I asked how many people had an Alexa-powered device at the Music Media Summit, where this podcast was recorded, almost everybody raised their hand. One person had an Apple HomePod. Only a couple had a Google Home. There’s a first-mover advantage, and as long as you improve, you win. This is Apple’s failure, the failure of Siri. I never use it, do you? And Google’s voice recognition is quite good, but what makes Alexa work is Prime. Which seemingly everybody has, at least everybody willing to open their wallet. You get free music with Prime. You can get all the music just on your Echo/Alexa. You can get a Spotify/Apple-type music subscription too. And on your Echo Show, the lyrics are displayed. Never underestimate ease of use, never underestimate the consumer’s unwillingness to switch. This is how Apple has...

Russian Pop Star Releases Video Spoofing The Alleged Donald Trump ‘Pee Tape’

(CelebrityAccess) A Russian pop star has made a video involving the likely false story about Donald Trump and two Russian prostitutes peeing on a bed. Emin Agalarov, a Russian pop star and son of an oligarch, helped set up a meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and an attorney who claimed to have damaging information regarding Hillary Clinton, who was running against Trumps father at the time for the presidency. The meeting apparently was a dud, but, being about Russia, had its moment in the mainstream media. Now Agalarov has released a video called “Got Me Good” which spoofs the over-the-top crazy story that people believed about two prostitutes peeing on a hotel bed that was once used by Barack and Michele Obama. It’s a long, convoluted story that very likely began as a joke on 4chan but was actually taken seriously by the mainstream media, starting with Buzzfeed, and Agalarov has a blast with that. GERMANY (CelebrityAccess) – It appears that Germany’s Ruhrtriennale Music & Arts Festival has reinvited Scottish experimental rap trio, Young Fathers, to perform at their 2018 event after publicly dropping the group from its lineup earlier this month. Ruhrtriennale announced back on June 13th that they would be canceling the group’s performance due to their support of the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement for Palestinian rights. But, the music and media communities were having none of it. Following much outcry and public support from the likes of Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Brian Eno and countless others, the festival reversed its decision this week.
