Pew Research: Teens Love YouTube, Not So Much Facebook

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Facebook ain’t the place to be for young folks. Instead, it’s YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat, all of which are more popular hangouts for U.S. teenagers, according to a study released today by Pew Research Center. Roughly half (51 percent) of U.S. teens ages 13 to 17 say they use Facebook while 85 percent use YouTube, 72 percent use Instagram and 69 percent use Snapchat. Much of this may have to do with the increased use of smartphones, according to Pew. Up from Pew’s last survey in 2014-15, 95 percent of teens now say they have a smartphone or access to one and 45 percent now say they are online on a near-constant basis. As for online (that is, being on an old-timey computer) one-third say they visit Snapchat or YouTube most often and about 15 percent go to Instagram. Only 10 percent of teens said Facebook was their most-visited site. Although Twitter and Tumblr have lower numbers than anything above, the shares of teens who use those platforms ar...

CEO Daniel Ek: Spotify Content Policy Had Botched Rollout

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Spotify CEO Daniel Ek admitted at a conference talk that his company did a poor job of rolling out a new content policy to root out hate speech and punish artists for misconduct. “We rolled this out wrong and could have done a much better job,” Ek said in comments yesterday at the Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., according to Deadline Hollywood. adding that the details of the policy were too vague. Spotify stopped promoting the music of R. Kelly and XXXTentacion who have been accused of statutory rape and battering a pregnant woman, respectively. However, the policy received backlash from acts like Kendrick Lamar and the company’s head of artist relations, Troy Carter, who considered the censorship an overarching concern. Hilary Rosen, the former chief of the RIAA, on the other hand, criticized the reversal saying Spotify was “a little ahead of the industry.” The post CEO Daniel Ek: Spotify Content Policy Had Botched Rollout appeared f...

Sunset Music Festival’s Last Day Canceled Due To Weather, Despite Clear Skies

TAMPA (CelebrityAccess) — Concerns over the effects of Subtropical Storm Alberto led to the cancellation of the final day of the Sunset Music Festival just hours before the gates were due to open on Sunday. While it seemed like a sound decision – the area was under a tropical storm warning from the National Weather Service and the Governor’s office had declared a state of emergency — Alberto stayed off of Florida’s Gulf Coast, leaving Tampa with blue skies and sunshine on throughout the day. Festival founder John Santoro said the decision to pull the plug on the festival for Sunday came from local officials. “Local authorities had already closed all other events planned for that day and SMF held out as long as I could, with fingers crossed and a heavy heart, but LOCAL AUTHORITIES cancelled our event as well,” he wrote in a statement after the cancellation. Still, Santoro declined to second-guess the official’s decision to cancel the event. “You can’t reverse-engineer these decisi...
