Report From Stagecoach

INDIO, Calif. (CelebrityAccess) The first weekend of the Stagecoach Country Music festival in Indio, Calif., has wrapped and Amplify’s Dave Brooks was there to give his take on how it all went down.

On Saturday, a strong wind “wreaked havoc” on the Maine Stage, bringing dust and some gusty winds to two main performances. Celebrities like husband/wife Ashton Kutcher/Mila Kunis, Nick Jonas and Nicole Kidman were on hand for Keith Urban’s set. Onstage were guests Brothers Osbourne and Dwight Yoakam, the latter taking the long journey from the Palamino Stage, where he just completed his own show.

“This is exactly what I was hoping for tonight, Stagecoach,” Urban said, according to Amplify. “A full moon, beautiful night, dust everywhere and my wife in the wings.”

The winds were worse for lead-in Kacey Musgraves. They were so strong that at some point it caused her ear monitors to malfunction, and the wind was blamed for her not being able to hit the high notes.

“Oh well, I get paid either way,” she said, according to Amplify.

Jason Isbell’s set with wife Amanda Shires and band 400 Unit was dubbed “energetic. Yoakam paid tribute to fellow Bakersfield native Merle Haggard with “Mama Tried.”

Midland, possibly one of the most up-and-coming of up-and-coming artists with one of the biggest bar jukebox tunes of many years (“Drinkin’ Problem”) told the crowd that their set was their biggest show ever, according to Amplify, but likely not for very long.

Much like Napa’s Bottlerock festival, Stagecoach has a cooking stage, the Stagecoach Smokehouse, which was manned by Guy Fieri, who handed out spareribs and beef brisket. “He made my wife a BBQ ostrich kimchi burrito and me a barbequed pork burrito,” Brooks wrote, “plus some insanely tasty vegan sweet potato pie for Nic Adler, who set up the Fieri activation. All the food was out of this world TASTY!”

The festival also included the “Spectra” structure, a leftover from Coachella, that provided fans with a birds-eye view of the festival grounds.

Stagecoach kicked off on a sad note, with a fire that burned three RVs in the parking area.

The second weekend kicks off Friday, and this one will include a guest appearance by Mason Ramsay, that yodelin’ kid, during Florida Georgia Line’s headlining slot.
